Celine Dion Responds To Her Death Hoax

The fake news spread so fast that it even reached Celine — who was very much alive — and she was shaken and upset.

“Sometimes it’s freaky because I have to call my family about it,” she told Digital Spy. “I was celebrating the birthday of my twins in Montreal and I was getting these phone calls saying there was stuff on Facebook that I was dead.”

When Celine puts it that way, it really outlines how damaging death hoaxes can actually be. Maybe we should all just agree to take a step back and stop the madness. But is it too soon to make a “her heart will go on” joke?

Celine Dion has hit back at pranksters who spread false reports that she had died, following a number of Facebook posts suggesting she had been killed in an accident.

The legendary singer admitted being a victim of the sick rumour by pranksters made her "a little mad" because of the impact that it has had on her family.

"Many years ago I [apparently] killed myself in my own garage. Don't ask me why I don't want to be a part of the showbiz industry!" she fumed to Digital Spy.

Celine - who has a daughter Renee, and twin boys Nelson and Eddy with her husband René Angélil - claims the news had dramatic emotional effects on her family, especially her 86-year-old mother.

Celine continued to rant: "The thing that worries me is my mum. It makes me a little mad - she's 86 years old and if I'm not on the phone telling her I'm OK four seconds after it's on the news… it doesn't matter what they say, it's the impact it has on your family."

The 45-year-old singer claims salacious reports in the media make her more determined to stay away from that side of things even more" before  adding, "But I'm glad I'm not dead!"
